BEFORE COMMENTING: This page reports & critiques gentrification, over-development, & corporatization in New York City.
Related to the blog “Vanishing New York,” it is an active, political online community of like-minded readers, here to discuss, commiserate, complain, and share information about the state of New York City and how hyper-gentrification and radical free-market capitalism (neoliberalism) have eroded urban life in New York. (And cities in general.) We also do some nostalgic looking back at the city of the past.
If you don’t like complaining about these things, this is not the right page for you and you should unfollow.
The First Amendment protects you from government laws that try to restrict free speech. It does not protect you from being banned from a Facebook page. This is not the United States of America.
While disagreement and differing opinions are certainly welcome, we do not tolerate trolls. Moderators regularly watch the page to weed out trolls.
Wikipedia defines an Internet Troll as: “a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community…”
When a follower provides nothing but disagreement, when they ONLY offer differing opinions, with the intent or outcome of creating repeated conflict in the thread, then they are behaving like a troll, and trolls will be banned. Same goes for someone who repeatedly posts similar comments, without letting up. Same goes for people who call the other commenters “whiners,” etc.
If we suspect you are a troll, we’ll probably just ban you outright. If we’re not sure, we might direct you to review this policy. If you think we are mistaken or misunderstanding your intent, let us know and we can discuss it. However, this is not a public space, and we reserve the right to ban anyone at our own discretion and without warning, especially if you’re being irritating.
SIMPLY: DON’T BE AN ASS.
