The Scarlet Spotlight is the preeminent podcast for all topics related to Rutgers University Athletics.
Hosted by RU alumni Danny Breslauer and Jon Newman, the show looks to provide Scarlet Knights fans — and those interested in Rutgers sports — with a unique analysis of the athletic department and its programs. Check in on New Jersey’s state university’s college sports and follow its journey in the Big Ten Conference.
The Scarlet Spotlight is hosted by two dedicated Rutgers alumni, Danny Breslauer and Jon Newman.
Danny Breslauer is an alumnus of Rutgers University, a 2010 graduate from the final class of Rutgers College and a proud native of Highland Park, NJ. Prior to college, Danny was an intern for WCTC-AM, covering Scarlet Knights athletics and local news for longtime Rutgers announcer Bruce Johnson’s staff.
Danny and his younger brother Jordan grew up as part of the RU community (and season ticket holders), with their parents, Kenneth Breslauer and Sherrie Schwab, both working at or around the University. Kenneth is in his 45th year at Rutgers in 2018-2019, and was in administration in life & health sciences for 32 years. He currently serves as Linus C. Pauling Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at RU.
From birth Jon was destined to go to Rutgers. His parents met there, two uncles and an older cousin went there. He spent much of his childhood going to Rutgers football and basketball games and rooting for the Scarlet Knights.
Jon dodged the yellowjackets at Palmer Stadium at the annual Rutgers-Princeton football pilgrimage. He dragged both his parents to Madison Square Garden to see the 1976 undefeated men’s basketball team. He played with the UHF antenna to watch games on New Jersey Network from The Barn through the snowy reception on his black and white TV. He adjusted his transistor radio to eek out a signal from WCTC in his North Jersey home.
